Reps

Contraindications
Wrap hands; avoid maximal power reps until wrist/hand conditioning is established.Setup
Boxing stance at cross range from the bag (slightly closer than jab range).
Execution
- 1Push off the ball of the rear foot and pivot the rear heel toward the target
- 2Rotate the hips and torso in sequence, driving the rear shoulder forward
- 3Extend the arm last in the chain, rotating the fist palm-down at impact
- 4Drive through the bag, not just tap it, and follow through slightly
- 5Retract immediately to guard
Key cues
- Turn the back foot's heel toward the target
- Hips lead, shoulder follows, fist finishes
- Drive through the bag, don't just touch it
- Keep the lead hand up as the cross fires
- Exhale hard on impact
Common faults
- Arm-punching without hip/foot rotation
- Leaning the whole torso forward instead of rotating
- Dropping the lead hand while throwing the cross
- Not turning the rear foot's heel
- Overcommitting balance forward past the front foot
Tweaks
- Add a step-in cross for extra range and power
- Practice from southpaw stance
- Combine with a body cross variation
Regressions
Muscles
Primary: Obliques, Glutes, Shoulders
Secondary: Core, Quadriceps
Notes
Research on punch biomechanics confirms the cross and hook produce the highest ground reaction forces via the rear leg drive — technical cross work builds this pattern directly.
