Heavy Bag - Combination Ladder (Increasing Punch Count)

CombatBag

A round structure where the fighter adds one additional punch to the combo every 30-60 seconds, building from a single jab up to a 5-6 punch combination by the end of the round — a Precision Striking signature structure for teaching combination-building under fatigue.

Reps

3 min rounds (ladder within round)

Rest

Contraindications

None significant.

Setup

Boxing stance at the bag, timer set for 30s or 60s intervals within a single round.

Execution

  1. 1Start with a single punch (e.g., jab only) for the first interval
  2. 2Add one more punch to the combo at each timer beep, building the same base sequence
  3. 3By the final interval, throw the complete accumulated combination
  4. 4Maintain full technique on each punch regardless of combo length
  5. 5Rest fully between rounds before starting the next ladder

Key cues

  • Don't rush to the next punch count — let each stage feel automatic first
  • Technique stays sharp even as combo length grows
  • Move around the bag between combo reps, don't stay static
  • Breathe with every single punch in the sequence
  • Treat the final, longest combo as the payoff of the round

Common faults

  • Adding punches before the current combo length is technically solid
  • Rushing through the combo as it gets longer, sacrificing form
  • Standing flat-footed through the whole ladder
  • Losing guard discipline as combo length increases
  • Going too hard early and gassing before the longest combo

Tweaks

  • Ladder up then back down within the same round
  • Vary which punch gets added at each stage
  • Add footwork requirements between each stage

Notes

This is Precision Striking's core round-building philosophy — 'add a technique every minute, then get a full minute at the complete combo before resting.'
