Rest

Contraindications
None significant; a staple in shoulder rehab and prehab protocols.Setup
Hold the TRX handles, walk the feet forward, and recline into a straight-body plank position.
Execution
- 1Perform a high row/face-pull-like pull first, elbows bending and driving back
- 2From that high-row position, externally rotate the forearms until the knuckles point upward, forming a 'W'
- 3Keep the shoulders down and away from the ears throughout
- 4Reverse the motion under control back to the starting position
Key cues
- Row first, then rotate — two distinct phases
- Knuckles point up at the finish
- Keep the body a rigid plank
- Move slowly, this is a control drill
Common faults
- Skipping the external rotation phase entirely
- Bending the arms too aggressively into a full row instead of a controlled raise
- Losing plank rigidity as fatigue sets in
- Rushing through the sequence without control
Tweaks
- Step farther from the anchor for a harder angle
- Combine into the full Y-T-W complex as a shoulder-health finisher
- Add a brief isometric hold in the W position
Regressions
Muscles
Primary: Rear Deltoids, Middle Trapezius, Rhomboids
Secondary: Rotator Cuff (Infraspinatus, Teres Minor)
Notes
The most technically demanding of the Y-T-W trio; mastering the T and Y raises first is recommended before adding the W's external rotation component.
