Execution
- 1Keep the body rigid throughout
- 2Reach the arms straight out to the sides into a 'T' shape, pulling the shoulder blades together
- 3Keep the shoulders down, away from the ears
- 4Return under control to the starting position
Key cues
- Arms straight out to the sides, forming a T
- Squeeze the shoulder blades together at the top
- Keep the body plank rigid
- Control both the raise and the return
Common faults
- Bending the arms into a row instead of a straight-arm raise
- Losing core tightness, letting the hips sag
- Shrugging the shoulders instead of retracting the blades
- Standing too close to the anchor, reducing the training stimulus
Tweaks
- Step farther back for a harder angle
- Combine into the full Y-T-W sequence
- Add a brief isometric hold at the top
Progressions
Muscles
Primary: Middle Trapezius, Rhomboids
Secondary: Rear Deltoids, Core
Notes
Described as the easiest entry drill of the Y-T-W sequence — a good starting point before progressing to the Y and W variants.
