TRX Suspended Plank Walkout

A flow-style movement combining a suspended plank with a hand walkout away from and back toward the feet, building shoulder stability and anti-extension core strength through a longer range of motion than a static plank.

Contraindications

Wrist or shoulder pain — limit walkout distance.

Setup

Feet in the foot cradles at mid-calf, start in a strong plank with hands under the shoulders.

Execution

  1. 1Brace the core and walk the hands forward away from the feet, extending the plank line
  2. 2Stop before the lower back is forced into extension
  3. 3Walk the hands back in toward the feet to the starting plank
  4. 4Repeat for the target number of walkouts

Key cues

  • Brace hard before each hand step
  • Keep hips level throughout the walkout, don't let them sag
  • Small controlled steps, not big lunges of the hands
  • Reverse the walkout with the same control as the outward phase

Common faults

  • Hips sagging as the hands walk further out
  • Walking out too far, losing anti-extension control
  • Rushing the walkout instead of controlled steps
  • Uneven hand steps causing rotation

Tweaks

  • Limit the walkout distance to regress
  • Add a push-up at the furthest point of the walkout
  • Combine with a knee tuck for a flow combo

Notes

TRX-specific. Angle = intensity: the more horizontal the body relative to the floor, the harder pressing/pulling/plank-style TRX moves become. For pulling movements (rows, face pulls), walking feet toward the anchor and leaning back further increases load. For pressing movements (push-ups, chest press), walking feet away from the anchor and standing more upright decreases load; moving feet closer to directly under the anchor point increases load. Foot position in the straps (heel vs. midfoot vs. toe) also changes leverage and load for lower-body moves. Walkout distance is the primary intensity lever — a longer walkout dramatically increases the anti-extension core demand, similar to the fallout's lever-arm principle.
