A kneeling anti-extension core exercise where the body falls forward from the hips while gripping the TRX handles, resisting lumbar extension as the arms extend overhead — a suspended equivalent of the ab wheel rollout.

Contraindications

Low back pain — reduce range of motion significantly and master the plank first.

Setup

Kneel facing away from the anchor (or facing it, per preference), grip both handles at chest height, body in a straight diagonal line from shoulders through hips to knees.

Execution

  1. 1Brace the core hard before initiating any movement
  2. 2Extend the arms forward and allow the body to fall forward as one rigid unit from the knees/shoulders
  3. 3Stop the fall before the lower back is forced into extension
  4. 4Pull back to the starting position using the lats and abs, not the arms alone

Key cues

  • Keep a shoulder-hip-knee straight line throughout, don't let the hips sag first
  • Brace like you're about to be punched in the stomach
  • Control the fall — stop before you lose the anti-extension position
  • Pull back using lats and core, not just biceps

Common faults

  • Letting the hips drop/butt glide out, losing the straight line
  • Extending too far and losing lumbar control
  • Pulling back with the arms only, not engaging the core/lats
  • Rushing the tempo

Tweaks

  • Reduce the fall distance (foot/knee position closer to anchor) to regress
  • Progress to a standing anti-extension fallout for advanced core work
  • Add a pause at maximum extension

Notes

TRX-specific. Angle = intensity: the more horizontal the body relative to the floor, the harder pressing/pulling/plank-style TRX moves become. For pulling movements (rows, face pulls), walking feet toward the anchor and leaning back further increases load. For pressing movements (push-ups, chest press), walking feet away from the anchor and standing more upright decreases load; moving feet closer to directly under the anchor point increases load. Foot position in the straps (heel vs. midfoot vs. toe) also changes leverage and load for lower-body moves. For the rollout/fallout, kneeling/foot distance from the anchor is the key lever: closer to the anchor = shorter fall = easier; further away = longer lever arm = much harder.
