CombatShadow
Combines a lateral slip with a full duck-under level change, simulating evasion of a looping punch by dropping height and shifting laterally simultaneously — a defensive skill emphasized heavily by peekaboo-style coaches like the Mike Tyson lineage.

Contraindications
Knee pain — reduce depth of duck.Setup
Boxing stance, imagine a wide hook coming toward the head.
Execution
- 1Bend both knees to drop the head below the imaginary punch's line
- 2Simultaneously shift weight and slide slightly to one side
- 3Keep the back relatively straight — the movement comes from the knees and hips, not spinal flexion
- 4Rise back to guard on the opposite angle from where you started
- 5Immediately fire a counter punch as you rise
Key cues
- Duck with your legs, not your back
- Eyes stay up and on the target the entire time
- Combine the level change with lateral movement, not straight down
- Explode back up into a counter
- Keep hands up throughout the duck
Common faults
- Bending forward at the waist (exposes the back of the neck/head)
- Ducking straight down with no lateral component
- Standing back up too slowly, missing the counter window
- Dropping guard hands while ducking
- Losing balance on the rise
Tweaks
- Add a slip-rope overhead to give physical feedback on duck depth
- Combine with a pivot on the rise to change angle further
- Chain multiple duck-unders in a row for conditioning
Progressions
Muscles
Primary: Quadriceps, Glutes, Hip Flexors
Secondary: Core, Calves
Notes
This is the drill that separates fighters who 'slip with the shoulders' from those who genuinely change levels — critical for MMA crossover athletes facing kicks as well.
