Combines a slip rope (a band or rope strung at head height, e.g. across squat rack posts) with reflex bag work — forcing the fighter to slip under/around the rope while also managing the reflex bag's rebound, layering two independent reactive stimuli into one drill.

Contraindications
Advanced drill — requires mastery of slip rope and reflex bag independently first.Setup
String a resistance band or rope at head height a few feet from the reflex bag, positioned so the fighter must slip the rope during their punch-and-slip sequence on the bag.
Execution
- 1Throw a punch or combination into the reflex bag
- 2As the bag rebounds, slip under or around the slip rope positioned nearby
- 3Return to guard and immediately re-engage the reflex bag
- 4Maintain awareness of both stimuli — the bag's rebound and the rope's position — simultaneously
- 5Increase pace only once both elements are handled cleanly
Key cues
- Treat the rope as a real incoming punch requiring a real slip
- Don't let focus on the rope cause you to ignore the bag's rebound, and vice versa
- Keep eyes up and forward throughout, not looking down at your feet
- Small, efficient slips — don't overcommit to either stimulus
- Stay relaxed; this drill has a learning curve, don't force speed early
Common faults
- Hitting the rope with the head due to poor slip depth judgment
- Getting hit by the bag's rebound while focused on the rope
- Overcomplicating the setup before basic elements are separately mastered
- Rushing pace before coordination between the two elements develops
- Neglecting to alternate slip direction against the rope
Tweaks
- Adjust rope height to change difficulty
- Add a specific counter punch requirement after each rope slip
- Alternate which stimulus (rope or bag) is prioritized each round
Regressions
Muscles
Primary: Quadriceps, Glutes, Core
Secondary: Shoulders, Calves
Notes
This is a Jason-specific combo drill leveraging equipment he already owns (reflex bag) plus a simple DIY slip rope (a resistance band strung between two points) for a compound reactive challenge.
