Reps
5-8 per side
Rest

Contraindications
High single-leg ankle and knee flexion demand — regress assistance level if pain occurs.Setup
Hold TRX handles at chest height, stand on one leg with the other extended forward off the ground.
Execution
- 1Extend the non-working leg straight out in front
- 2Lower slowly using the TRX for balance/assistance
- 3Descend as low as controlled mobility allows
- 4Use minimal arm pull — let the legs do the work
- 5Drive back up to standing
Key cues
- Extended leg stays off the floor throughout
- Use the straps for balance, not to pull yourself up
- Chest up, sit down between the hips
- Control the descent
- Push through the whole working foot
Common faults
- Over-relying on arm pull instead of leg strength
- Extended leg touching the ground
- Heel lifting off the floor on the working leg
- Losing balance and falling to the side
- Rushing the descent
Tweaks
- Reduce assistance from the straps as strength improves
- Try holding a rack or doorframe instead of TRX
- Progress to a box pistol squat next
Progressions
Muscles
Primary: Quadriceps, Gluteus Maximus
Secondary: Hip Flexors, Core, Ankles
Notes
The TRX-assisted variation lets lifters practice full pistol range of motion safely before removing external support.
