Contraindications

Avoid with cardiovascular conditions without medical clearance given the high-intensity nature. Avoid on hard surfaces if managing shin/Achilles issues.

Rope sized correctly, clear overhead space, timer set for intervals.

Execution

  1. 1Begin turning the rope at maximal sustainable speed
  2. 2Keep jumps small and fast — speed comes from wrist turnover, not jump height
  3. 3Sustain the sprint pace for the full interval (typically 20-30 seconds)
  4. 4Rest completely or actively (slow bounce) between intervals
  5. 5Repeat for the prescribed number of rounds

Key cues

  • Small, fast jumps — speed over height
  • Relax the shoulders even as pace increases
  • Breathe rhythmically, don't hold your breath
  • Push the pace especially in the final 5 seconds of each interval

Common faults

  • Jumping too high at speed, causing rope timing errors
  • Tensing up through the shoulders and upper back
  • Losing form and turning it into a stumble instead of a controlled sprint
  • Inadequate rest between intervals leading to breakdown in mechanics

Tweaks

  • Use a Tabata structure (20 sec on / 10 sec off x 8) for maximal conditioning
  • Pair with heavy bag rounds for a boxing-style conditioning circuit
  • Use a weighted rope for added intensity
