Contraindications

High skill prerequisite — do not attempt without a solid wall handstand hold and pike push-up base. Neck/head impact risk if control is lost.

Setup

Kick up into a chest-to-wall or back-to-wall handstand, hands shoulder-width, roughly a hand's distance or slightly more from the wall.

Execution

  1. 1Lower the head toward the floor under control, elbows tracking forward
  2. 2Touch the head lightly to the floor (or an ab mat/pad for range)
  3. 3Press back up to full lockout, pushing through the whole hand
  4. 4Maintain a tight hollow-body line throughout

Key cues

  • Elbows track forward, not flared out
  • Kiss the ground with the head, don't crash
  • Press through the whole hand, especially the fingertips
  • Keep the hollow body tight the whole rep

Common faults

  • Flaring elbows out to the sides
  • Excessive arch (banana back) instead of a hollow body
  • Partial range of motion
  • Losing balance and kicking off the wall mid-rep

Tweaks

  • Use an ab mat or pad to reduce range of motion as a regression
  • Progress to deficit HSPU by elevating the hands
  • Free-standing HSPU (no wall) as the ultimate progression
