CombatShadow
The base rhythmic bounce and weight-shift that underlies all boxing footwork — a light, continuous shuffle on the balls of the feet that keeps the fighter ready to move in any direction instantly. This is the drill Fight Camp and most coaches call 'the base of all footwork.'

Execution
- 1Shift weight in a light rhythmic bounce between the front and back foot
- 2Stay on the balls of the feet throughout, heels barely touching
- 3Keep the bounce small and controlled, not a big hop
- 4Maintain guard position throughout the shuffle
- 5Add directional movement (forward, back, lateral) once the base rhythm is comfortable
Key cues
- Small bounce, not a big jump
- Stay light on the balls of the feet
- Keep the rhythm continuous, never fully flat-footed
- Hands up the entire time
- Build the habit until it's unconscious
Common faults
- Bouncing too high, wasting energy and slowing reaction time
- Going flat-footed between shuffles
- Losing guard position while focused on the feet
- Inconsistent rhythm, disrupting flow into punches
- Overexerting early and gassing out the shuffle by mid-round
Tweaks
- Add direction changes while shuffling
- Combine with a jab thrown mid-shuffle
- Practice at varying tempos (slow warm-up vs. fast championship pace)
Muscles
Primary: Calves, Quadriceps
Secondary: Glutes, Core
Notes
Every subsequent footwork drill in this catalog builds on this base shuffle — treat it as a warm-up staple before any shadow or bag session.
