One of the most demanding bodyweight core movements — popularized by Bruce Lee — where the body is lowered from a vertical position down to near-horizontal while pivoting only at the shoulder blades, keeping the entire body rigid. Requires immense anti-extension and flexion strength across the whole trunk.

Contraindications
Only for advanced trainees with a fully developed hollow body and L-sit; low back injury risk is high if attempted prematurely.Setup
Lie on a bench, gripping behind the head for support, raise the entire body (legs and torso as one rigid unit) up to vertical, pivoting at the shoulder blades.
Execution
- 1Brace the entire body into one rigid line from shoulders to feet
- 2Lower the body slowly toward horizontal, pivoting only at the shoulder blades
- 3Stop before the low back arches or the body loses the rigid line
- 4Pause briefly at the lowest controllable point
- 5Raise back to vertical under control using the core, not momentum
Key cues
- Whole body moves as one rigid plank
- Pivot only at the shoulder blades, not the hips
- Lower only as far as you can keep it rigid
- Exhale hard on the way up
Common faults
- Bending at the hips, turning it into a hip flexion movement instead of a rigid lever
- Lowering too far before earning the range, causing the low back to sag
- Using momentum to raise back up instead of controlled strength
- Losing the rigid line entirely partway through
Tweaks
- Bend the knees for a significant regression
- Use a partial range of motion, only lowering a few inches initially
- Progress range very gradually over months, not weeks
Regressions
Muscles
Primary: Rectus Abdominis, Transverse Abdominis
Secondary: Hip Flexors, Lats, Glutes
Notes
FLEXION + ANTI-EXTENSION, difficulty 5 — the hardest core movement in this catalog, explicitly flagged at max difficulty per task instructions.
