Contraindications

Setup

Wear the vest snug against the torso, ensuring it doesn't bounce or shift during movement.

Execution

  2. 2Maintain normal running/walking mechanics — the vest shouldn't force posture changes
  3. 3Keep the core braced to support the added torso load
  4. 4Progress pace and duration gradually as conditioning improves

  • Vest should sit snug, not bouncing
  • Maintain normal running form, don't let the vest distort posture

Common faults

  • Vest too loose, causing bouncing and discomfort/chafing
  • Adding too much weight too soon, altering natural gait mechanics
  • Ignoring joint feedback — vest running increases ground reaction forces
  • Using a vest so heavy it forces overstriding or shortened stride to compensate

  • Use for interval sprints (weighted vest sprints) for a power-endurance stimulus
  • Use for steady-state conditioning at 10-15 lb for aerobic base work
  • Remove the vest partway through a session for an unloaded 'light' finish
