Contraindications

None significant beyond standard shoulder precautions.

Setup

Set to single-handle mode. Face away from the anchor, hold one handle at chest height with the working arm, other hand free or on the hip, lean forward at an angle.

Execution

  1. 1Brace the core hard to resist rotating toward the anchor
  2. 2Bend the working elbow to lower the chest toward the hand
  3. 3Press back to extension while keeping the hips and shoulders square
  4. 4Repeat for reps, then switch sides

Key cues

  • Square the hips and shoulders before every rep
  • Resist the pull — don't let your torso twist
  • Same tempo both directions
  • Widen the stance if balance is an issue

Common faults

  • Torso rotating toward the working side
  • Uneven lean angle from side to side
  • Rushing reps to avoid the stabilization challenge
  • Free arm swinging for momentum

Tweaks

  • Add a small step with the opposite foot back for a lunge-press combo
  • Slow the eccentric to 3 seconds to add anti-rotation time
  • Close stance for extra balance challenge

Notes

TRX-specific. Angle = intensity: the more horizontal the body relative to the floor, the harder pressing/pulling/plank-style TRX moves become. For pulling movements (rows, face pulls), walking feet toward the anchor and leaning back further increases load. For pressing movements (push-ups, chest press), walking feet away from the anchor and standing more upright decreases load; moving feet closer to directly under the anchor point increases load. Foot position in the straps (heel vs. midfoot vs. toe) also changes leverage and load for lower-body moves. Single-limb variations are inherently more advanced due to added anti-rotation demand — regress to the bilateral chest press if form breaks down.
