Tall-Kneeling Kettlebell/Dumbbell Press

PushKBDB

Overhead press from a tall-kneeling stance (both knees down), removing the stabilizing forward leg used in the half-kneeling version — forces the core and glutes to prevent lumbar extension without any leg-drive assistance.

Contraindications

Knee discomfort — use a pad.

Setup

Kneel tall on both knees, torso upright, kettlebell/dumbbell racked at the shoulder.

Execution

  1. 1Squeeze both glutes to lock the pelvis under the ribs
  2. 2Brace the core hard before pressing
  3. 3Press straight overhead without arching the low back
  4. 4Lower under control back to the rack

Key cues

  • Squeeze both glutes tight
  • Ribs down, stacked over the pelvis
  • Press straight up, resist arching
  • Move as one rigid unit

Common faults

  • Arching the low back to assist the press
  • Losing glute engagement mid-set
  • Swaying side to side
  • Rushing the descent, losing control

Tweaks

  • Alternate arms for anti-rotation demand
  • Add a pause at lockout
  • Progress to standing single-leg variations
