Contraindications
Disc pathology with flexion intolerance — avoid or keep knees very bent.Setup
Stand with feet hip-width apart, soft knees, and fold forward from the hips, letting the arms and head hang.
Execution
- 1Let the torso hang heavy, releasing the neck and shoulders completely
- 2Gently sway side to side or rock slightly forward and back
- 3Bend the knees more if the hamstrings are very tight
- 4Roll up slowly, vertebra by vertebra, to standing
Key cues
- Let gravity do the work — don't force the fold
- Relax the neck fully, let the head hang heavy
- Bend the knees as needed to avoid straining the low back
- Roll up slowly to avoid dizziness or back strain
Common faults
- Locking the knees straight and pulling the low back to force depth
- Standing up too quickly, causing head rush
- Tensing the neck and shoulders instead of relaxing
- Bouncing aggressively instead of a gentle sway
Tweaks
- Cross the forearms and hold opposite elbows for added shoulder release
- Add a gentle rotational twist while hanging for variety
- Hold for an extended period (1-2 min) as a cooldown/decompression drill
Progressions
Muscles
Primary: Hamstrings, Calves, Spinal Erectors
Secondary: Neck, Shoulders
Notes
A great transition drill between more intense mobility work and finishing a session.
