Contraindications
Avoid with acute low back pain. Very joint-friendly overall due to minimal impact and controlled loading.Setup
Attach a harness around the waist/hips or hold a rope/strap connected to the sled. Face away from the sled.
Execution
- 1Lean forward slightly from the hips, maintaining a flat back
- 2Take controlled, deliberate steps, driving through the whole foot
- 3Keep tension on the strap/harness constant — avoid jerky starts
- 4Maintain a steady pace over the prescribed distance
- 5Turn and walk the sled back (or reset) between sets
Key cues
- Lean from the hips, not the low back

- Breathe rhythmically throughout the drag
Common faults
- Rounding the low back instead of hinging from the hips
- Jerky, inconsistent steps causing the sled to stop-start
- Overloading the sled beyond what allows good posture
- Rushing the pace and sacrificing position
Tweaks
- Use a harness for a more hands-free, posture-focused variant
- Increase load for pure strength-endurance work
- Add incline (if terrain allows) for extra posterior chain demand
