Scorpion Reach

AnimalBW

From Loaded Beast, one leg reaches across the body toward the opposite wrist and traces a figure-8 pathway back and out to the side, opening the hip through internal-to-external rotation while the trunk flexes and extends.

Contraindications

Avoid with hip labral issues; move within pain-free range only.

Setup

Start in Loaded Beast (one hand's knee lifted and loaded forward toward the wrist).

Execution

  1. 1Load the scorpion leg's knee toward the opposite wrist, toes pointed
  2. 2Travel the foot back and out in a figure-8 pathway, externally rotating the hip
  3. 3Look between the knees as the leg travels back
  4. 4Keep the resting knee flexed with the heel rotated outward
  5. 5Push the shoulder blades toward the ears as the tail circles back to the wrist

Key cues

  • Toes stay pointed the entire time
  • Focus on the tail's figure-8 path, not a big thoracic twist
  • Resist rotating the whole trunk — let the leg do the work
  • Move slow and controlled through the full circle

Common faults

  • Turning it into a big thoracic rotation instead of a leg-driven movement
  • Losing the pointed toe / relaxing the foot
  • Rushing through the figure-8 pathway
  • Collapsing the supporting shoulder during the reach

Tweaks

  • Slow the tempo to isolate hip rotation
  • Hold at the furthest point of the reach for 2 seconds
  • Pair with Ape Sweep for a mobility-focused flow

Regressions

Progressions

Muscles

Primary: Hip Rotators, Obliques, Shoulders

Secondary: Core, Hip Flexors

Notes

Considered one of the more advanced 'form specific stretches' in the system — requires loaded beast competency first.
