Rocking in Crab

AnimalBW

A gentle rocking movement in the Crab position, shifting weight between the hands and feet to mobilize the shoulders, wrists, and hips from the posterior-chain-loaded position.

Demo: Animal Flow

Sets

2

Reps

10-15 rocks

Rest

30s

Contraindications

Very low risk; reduce range if wrist or shoulder pain is present.

Setup

Start in Crab position, hips lifted off the ground.

Execution

  1. 1Rock weight slightly toward the hands, deepening the shoulder load
  2. 2Rock weight back toward the feet, deepening the hip and ankle load
  3. 3Keep the hips lifted throughout, never letting them touch down
  4. 4Move slowly and rhythmically, breathing steadily
  5. 5Continue rocking for the prescribed reps or time

Key cues

  • Keep hips elevated the entire time, no sagging
  • Move slow and controlled, not bouncy
  • Push the ground away through both hands and feet
  • Sync the breath with the rocking rhythm

Common faults

  • Letting the hips drop to the floor between rocks
  • Head dropping back and straining the neck
  • Moving too quickly to get any real mobility benefit
  • Uneven weight distribution between hands and feet

Tweaks

  • Progress into full Crab Reach once mobile enough
  • Add small pulses at each end range
  • Use as a pre-flow warm-up alongside Rocking in Beast

Progressions

Muscles

Primary: Shoulders, Glutes, Hip Flexors

Secondary: Triceps, Core

Notes

Pairs with Rocking in Beast as a two-part warm-up mobilizing both anchor shapes before a full flow session.
