CoreBW
A maximal-tension plank variant popularized by StrongFirst/RKC. Instead of just holding position, you actively co-contract glutes, quads, lats, and abs to create irradiated total-body tension, making the hold dramatically harder in a much shorter time.

Sets
4
Reps
10-20 sec max tension hold
Rest
45s
Contraindications
None significant; regress duration if shaking indicates technique breakdown, not just fatigue.Setup
Standard forearm plank position, elbows under shoulders, feet close together.
Execution
- 1Clench fists and forearms hard into the floor
- 2Pull elbows toward toes and toes toward elbows without moving
- 3Squeeze glutes and quads maximally, adduct the legs
- 4Posteriorly tilt the pelvis slightly
- 5Hold 10-20 seconds at max tension, then rest
Key cues
- Irradiate — squeeze everything at once
- Pull your toes to your elbows isometrically
- Rip the floor apart with your forearms
- Short and brutal, not long and loose
Common faults
- Treating it like a regular long-duration plank (low tension)
- Losing the posterior pelvic tilt under fatigue
- Holding breath entirely instead of controlled hissing exhales
- Flaring elbows out losing lat engagement
Tweaks
- Add hip abduction against a mini band
- Elevate feet on a box for more anterior core load
- Pair with hollow hold for a superset

Notes
ANTI-EXTENSION. Named for the RKC kettlebell certification; teaches maximal irradiated tension that carries over to heavy compound lifts.
