CoreBand
A hybrid drill where the band is pressed out and then the torso deliberately rotates toward the anchor in a controlled arc, training both the anti-rotation press and a controlled, resisted rotational motion in the same rep.
Demo: General S&C demo
Sets
3
Reps
8 per side
Rest
45s
Contraindications
None significant if rotation is kept controlled.Setup
Anchor a band at chest height to the side. Stand perpendicular to the anchor, band held at the sternum.
Execution
- 1Press the band straight out from the chest
- 2With the arms extended, rotate the torso and hands toward the anchor point in a controlled arc
- 3Rotate back to center under control, resisting the band the whole way
- 4Bring the hands back to the chest
- 5Repeat for reps, then switch sides
Key cues
- Press first, then rotate with control
- Rotate from the hips and torso together
- Resist the band on the way back to center
- Keep the arms locked out through the rotation
Common faults
- Losing the press position before rotating
- Rotating too fast, letting the band snap you back
- Rotating only through the arms, not the torso
- Excessive lumbar rotation instead of thoracic rotation
Tweaks
- Reduce rotation range as a regression
- Increase band tension for advanced athletes
- Perform from a split stance for added stability challenge
Regressions
Muscles
Primary: Obliques, Transverse Abdominis
Secondary: Shoulders, Glutes
Notes
ANTI-ROTATION crossing into controlled ROTATION.
