Kick-Through

AnimalBW

From a Beast or Bear Hover base, one leg swings underneath the body in a full kick, extending fully before returning to base, without settling into a seated position (unlike the Sit-Through). Common in both Animal Flow and breakdance vocabularies as a dynamic leg-swing transition.

Reps

5-6 per side

Rest

45s

Contraindications

Avoid with hip impingement or wrist pain.

Setup

Start in Beast or Bear Hover position, knees hovering off the ground.

Execution

  1. 1Lift one leg and streamline the same-side arm, as in Sidekick-Through setup
  2. 2Swing the leg underneath the body in a continuous kicking arc, ankle flexed and knee extended
  3. 3Let the leg travel through the full arc and return to base without pausing in a seated position
  4. 4Keep the supporting arm locked and pushing through the floor
  5. 5Repeat on the same side for reps, then switch

Key cues

  • Toes pointed, knee locked on the kicking leg
  • Keep the kick continuous — swing through, don't stop and sit
  • Streamline the free arm overhead during the kick
  • Push through the supporting hand the entire time

Common faults

  • Bending the knee on the kicking leg
  • Stopping mid-kick and collapsing into a seated rest (turns it into a Sit-Through)
  • Collapsing the supporting shoulder
  • Rushing the kick before achieving control at a slower tempo

Tweaks

  • Alternate front kick-through and side kick-through for variety
  • Slow the tempo to isolate hip control
  • Chain into a longer combat/flow combination with Sit-Through

Regressions

Progressions

Muscles

Primary: Hip Flexors, Obliques, Shoulders

Secondary: Core, Glutes

Notes

Shares its leg mechanics with the Animal Flow Sidekick-Through but is executed as a continuous swing rather than settling into a fixed base.
