Contraindications
Same as one-hand swing; additional risk of dropped bell if timing is mismanaged — practice with lighter loads first.Setup
Same as the one-hand swing. Prepare to release and re-grip the handle at the top of the float with the opposite hand.
Execution
- 1Perform the hip-driven swing as normal
- 2At the top of the float, release the bell momentarily and catch it with the other hand
- 3Continue the swing pattern uninterrupted with the new hand
- 4Maintain square hips throughout the hand switch
- 5Keep the hike smooth regardless of which hand is loaded
Key cues
- Pass at the top of the float, not on the way down
- Keep the hips squared during the switch
- Eyes stay forward, don't chase the bell with your head
- Smooth hike back regardless of hand
- Timing comes from practice — start slow
Common faults
- Passing too low, forcing arm-lift to compensate
- Rotating the torso to chase the handoff
- Losing hip drive to focus on the catch
- Dropping the bell due to mistimed release
- Overgripping in anticipation of the switch
Tweaks
- Every-rep hand switch vs. every-other-rep
- Add a brief pause at the switch for control practice
- Combine with deadstop swings for a technical/conditioning superset
