ExtrasRopeBW
An advanced jump rope skill where the arms cross in front of the body before the rope passes, creating a loop for the feet to jump through. Builds significant coordination and shoulder/forearm control, common in boxing and freestyle jump rope.

Contraindications
Low physical risk but high skill barrier — frustration is common early on. No specific contraindications beyond general jump rope cautions.Setup
Stand as with basic bounce; ensure sufficient rope length for the crossed-arm loop.
Execution
- 1As the rope approaches the top of its rotation, cross the arms in front of the body (one hand over the other)
- 2Jump through the loop created by the crossed rope
- 3Uncross the arms as the rope passes beneath, returning to a normal swing
- 4Continue alternating cross and open swings in rhythm
- 5Keep the jump height consistent with the basic bounce
Key cues
- Cross at the wrists, not the whole arms
- Keep the jump height the same as a basic bounce
- Time the cross so the loop is ready as you land
- Practice the crossing motion without the rope first
Common faults
- Crossing too early or late, missing the loop
- Jumping too high trying to 'give more room' for the cross
- Excessive arm crossing (crossing at the elbows/shoulders instead of wrists)
- Losing rhythm transitioning in and out of the cross
Tweaks
- Practice standing crossovers without jumping first to nail the arm pattern
- Combine with double unders for 'cross-double-unders' (elite skill)
- Use in freestyle jump rope routines for boxing footwork variety
Muscles
Primary: Forearms, Shoulders, Calves
Secondary: Core, Hip Flexors
Notes
Primary energy system: aerobic-to-lactic. Common in boxing gyms as a coordination and hand-speed drill more than a pure conditioning tool, though it still elevates heart rate significantly.
