PullBarBW
Pull-up performed with the wrists rolled over the top of the bar (palm and wrist crease on top of the bar rather than wrapped around the side) — the grip used in gymnastics ring work and as direct preparation for the muscle-up transition.

Contraindications
Wrist discomfort is common initially; build tolerance with short holds before full reps.Setup
Roll the wrists over the bar so the heel of the palm sits on top of the bar, fingers wrapping down the front.
Execution
- 1Establish the false grip before starting the hang
- 2Pull with the same mechanics as a standard pull-up, keeping the wrist rolled over throughout
- 3Drive elbows down and back through the full pull
- 4Lower with control, maintaining the false grip position
Key cues
- Roll the wrist over the bar, not just the fingers
- Keep the false grip locked in the whole rep, don't let it slip to a normal grip
- Build tolerance gradually — this grip is uncomfortable at first
- Use chalk to prevent slipping
Common faults
- Losing the false grip mid-rep and reverting to a standard grip
- Excessive wrist pain from inadequate wrist prep/mobility
- Attempting high-rep sets before building false-grip hang tolerance
- Using rings before mastering the false grip on a straight bar
Tweaks
- False-grip dead hang as a standalone drill
- Progress on gymnastic rings for a more natural false-grip angle
- Combine with muscle-up transition drills
