CoreBand
A standing rotational movement pulling a band from high to low (or low to high) across the body, training the core and hips to generate controlled rotational force through a full diagonal pattern.
Demo: General S&C demo
Sets
3
Reps
10-12 per side
Rest
45s
Contraindications
Low back pain when rounded — reduce band tension and focus on hip-driven rotation.Setup
Anchor a band high on one side. Stand perpendicular to the anchor, feet shoulder-width apart, gripping the band with both hands.
Execution
- 1Start with the hands and band at shoulder height on the anchor side
- 2Rotate the torso and pull the band down and across the body to the opposite hip
- 3Pivot the back foot to allow full hip rotation
- 4Control the return to the start position, resisting the band
- 5Repeat for reps, then switch sides
Key cues
- Rotate from the hips and torso together
- Pivot the back foot as you chop
- Control the band on the way back, don't let it snap you
- Chop across the body, not just down
Common faults
- Only moving the arms without rotating the hips and torso
- Rounding the low back during the chop
- Losing control on the eccentric return
- Not pivoting the back foot, limiting hip rotation
Tweaks
- Reverse the direction for a low-to-high woodchopper
- Increase band tension for more resistance
- Perform from a kneeling position to isolate the torso rotation
Progressions
Muscles
Primary: Obliques, Rectus Abdominis
Secondary: Glutes, Shoulders
Notes
ROTATION. Band substitute for cable woodchopper per equipment rules (no cable machines).
