Contraindications
None significant at moderate loads.Setup
Lie on the bench with a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder level.
Execution
- 1Press the right dumbbell to full extension while the left holds static at the chest
- 2Lower the right dumbbell back to the chest
- 3Immediately press the left dumbbell up
- 4Continue alternating without pausing between sides
Key cues
- Keep the static-side dumbbell locked in place
- Brace the core against rotation the whole set
- Smooth, continuous alternation — no jerking
- Keep both shoulder blades pinned to the bench
Common faults
- Letting the static arm drift or shake
- Rotating the torso toward the pressing side
- Losing bench contact with the hips
- Rushing the tempo and losing control of the static dumbbell
Tweaks
- Slow the static hold for added core demand
- Perform on a stability surface for extra challenge
- Combine with feet-up bench position
